06/10/2008, San Diego City Council Votes to Fluoridate
On June 10, 2008, following 2 and 1/2 hours of testimony and deliberation, the San Diego City Council voted unanimously to accept the staff recommendation that instructs the Mayor to fluoridate the city’s water with the nearly $4 million provided by the San Diego County First Five Commission. It is expected that the development of a contract for construction may take up to two years with a further 2 years for construction, such that by 2012 the residents of San Diego will begin to enjoy the benefits of reduced tooth decay. San Diego has been the most populated city in America without fluoridated water. View the video of the June 10 City Council proceedings (click on June 10 Video, start at 1:21:20).
